Victoria Park II is a three-bedroom maisonette occupying the lower two floors of a four-storey late-nineteenth century terrace corner house. The design reinvents an already existing extension within the same footprint, to create a new living space and garden at basement level and an additional bedroom at ground level.
An impactful yet straightforward approach involved excavating the entire existing garden to the basement level, which not only transforms the lower ground floor but also creates a connection between the new living space and a stunning sunken garden.
A courtyard featuring fully openable glazing enhances the space, seamlessly blending the outdoors with the room when the doors are opened. The white stained larch timber cladding, with its reflective quality, illuminates the outdoor area. Complementing this is the contrasting board marked concrete and abundant greenery.
The dining room directly overlooks the courtyard. A generous skylight allows for abundant natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that harmonises with the serene outdoor space.
The second flight of stairs leads to an office on the second floor which in turn leads onto an expansive roof deck; keeping a low profile between the neighbours’ roof tops.
A new guest bedroom at ground floor uses exposed structural ply fins to maximise space, incorporating a bespoke bed and built-in storage. This bedroom opens onto a new decking area through a half-sized door, where you can look down on the sunken garden and into the courtyard.
