Engagement programme to inform Hounslow's Estate regeneration programme

This is the first site in Hounslow’s Estate Regeneration Programme and will comprise 209 new homes with a mix to address local housing need. Alongside the design of a 25 unit block, ZCD Architects led an engagement programme for young residents to make sure their needs were being met.

12 young residents (aged 7 – 19) took part throughout the course of 7 workshops, held over a period of 5 months. Their insightful input had a significant steer on the design of the public realm and key connections. They listened to and supported each other despite their age differences, developed analytical, creative and presentation skills and began to envisage what their future neighbourhood might offer. Importantly they were appreciative of the opportunity to be involved.

In March 2022 Hounslow Planning Committee approved the regeneration. At each presentation, at preapplication stage, Hounslow’s Design Review Panel were delighted to see how the young people's lived experience was informing, progressing and enriching the masterplan. The panel considered it an exemplar in this respect. Hounslow Council have understood the value of the innovative approach. Council Leader, Councillor Curran, was fully supportive and attended the final workshop to experience the process first hand, meet and speak to the young residents and thank them personally.

I definitely look forward to living here and seeing all the things we worked on and seeing our achievements and dreams come to life. It will make me happy that my voice has been heard.
